I Reservation Policy
a. The use of lab space, instruments, and equipment follows reservation policy. Users are required to make reservations five working days in advance. Please cancel the reservation two working days in advance if you are unable to show up as scheduled.
b. For drop-in use of instruments and equipment out of necessity for experiments, please contact the administration office for the availability of instruments and equipment, fill out and submit on site Institute of Eco-Chongming Lab Reservation Request Form.
c. Please arrange experiments reasonably and complete experiments within the reserved time slot so as not to affect subsequent use of the lab by others.
d. Use of laboratory should follow scheduled hours. Multiple cancellations or extensions of scheduled hours will cause denial of reservations for a month.
II Use of Laboratory and Safety Management
a. Users are required to familiarize with and comply with relevant policies, rules, and regulations (Research Space Use Policy (IEC), Laboratory Safety Policy (IEC), etc.).
b. Users will be informed of laboratory safety rules and precautions before experiments. All users must be familiar with laboratory environment and signs of emergency exits, master the use of safety and emergency equipment, and sign the Letter of Responsibility.
c. For basic instruments and equipment, users are required to receive appropriate training from laboratory staff before operations. Large-scale precision instruments and equipment are managed and supervised by designated professional staff.
d. Users must maintain a thorough understanding of the performance of instruments and equipment, familiarize with operating procedures, and follow operating instructions strictly to ensure personal safety and the proper use of instruments and equipment. Equipment in operation should be properly labelled to avoid interruption of experiments due to maloperation by others. In the event of malfunction of instruments and equipment, and potential safety hazards, please stop the experiment immediately and report to laboratory staff.
e. Please take good care of public facilities. Removal, transfer, disassembly, replacement, personal use or borrowing of instruments and equipment without permission are prohibited. Tampering with equipment in good condition in the laboratory is prohibited.
f. External personnel who wishes to place his or her own instruments and equipment in the laboratory is required to report to the administration office in advance and schedule the location of placement. Random placement of instruments and equipment without permission is prohibited.
g. Laboratory specimens, samples, and reagents should be properly stored and labeled. Anyone who causes contamination to other’s specimens or samples due to improper storage will be held accountable.
h. Waste generated in the laboratory shall not be discharged at will. Liquid waste must be poured into liquid waste containers to be disposed properly. Gas waste can only be discharged after being treated by specialized equipment. Solid waste must be properly classified and then poured into corresponding garbage cans.
i. Staying overnight in the laboratory is strictly prohibited. If there is indeed the necessity to conduct experiments at night, please submit applications to the administration office in advance and get prior approval. Total number of people staying overnight in the lab must be no less than three.
j. Smoking, drinking, shouting, cooking over an open flame, and inappropriately connecting electrical wires are strictly prohibited. Activities that pose a threat to laboratory safety are strictly prohibited.
k. Upon termination of use, users are required to follow the steps below:
1) check the condition of instruments and equipment;
2) shut down electricity;
3) clean up lab space;
4) fill out the record sheet of space (equipment) use;
5) turn off water, electrical, and gas valves and switches, and close the doors and windows;
6) exit the lab and return all the keys.
l. For anyone who causes potential safety concerns in the lab due to violation of relevant policies, rules, and regulations, laboratory staff has the authority to halt or shut down his or her experiment, request him or her to leave the laboratory, and restrict his or her future reservations. Anyone who fails to operate instruments and equipment as required and causes malfunction and damage to instruments, equipment, and public facilities shall take corresponding responsibilities.
m. Laboratory related matters that are not covered in the above shall be implemented in accordance with Research Space Use Policy (IEC), Laboratory Safety Policy (IEC) and other pertinent polices, rules, and regulations.
