Abstract
The Yangtze River Delta region has increasingly become a mature region and typical representative of China's regional tourism cooperation. Therefore, for the stakeholders, it’is worthwhile to explore its evolution process, which will provide positive experience reference and theoretical inspirationfor other regions’ development, and be helpful to solve the unbalanced and inadequate tourism development in China. Given that, this paper carefully analyzes the related materials and literature on regional tourism cooperation, and then divides the process of regional tourism cooperation in the Yangtze River Delta into four stages, namely, exploring stage (1978-1992), starting stage (1992-2003), developing stage (2003-2010), and stable stage (2010-present), respectively. Moreover, this paper also finds that the subjects and contents of cooperation presents a S-shaped multioverlap evolution process, and there exists a phased match between key cooperation areas and preference reasons of multidestination trips at different stages of the process, such as ‘love of variety, high-level preferences, and low costs per unit’. Obviously, our results are favorable to the coupling model of supply-demand, which effectively promotes the historical process of regional tourism cooperation in the Yangtze River Delta. This study aims to provide the division of stages, modelinduction, and the coupling of supply and demand of the tourism cooperation process in the Yangtze River Delta region. Although this paper contributed to theoretical innovation to some extent in this field, the related policymakers also requires optimization adjustment when adapting to local condition.
