Introduction
Facing stresses from societal development and climate change, including sea-level rise and increased storm events, global islands play a unique role toward sustainability and adaptation to climate change. It is challenging to maintain ecological health and functioning of islands – with or without connection to the mainland, while pursuing development. To improve our understanding of island ecology and implement sustainable development of islands, we call for organizing an“International Eco-Island Science Alliance”(EISA).
As the follow-up of the International Forum on Ecological Civilization: Chongming Island - Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow, held on October 11-12, 2018 in Chongming, Shanghai, which proposed to establish an eco-island scientific alliance, this workshop will discuss how to build an International Eco-Island Science Alliance and provide recommendations for the development of Chongming as a model of world-class ecological islands.
In the closing session of the workshop, the establishment of an“International Eco-Island Science Alliance”(EISA) will be announced, which will be publicized on newspapers, journals, and websites.
